Police: mother killed boy, 6 weeks, in 2010
HUNTINGDON, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania woman is charged with murdering her 6-week-old son nearly a year and a half ago but her attorney questions why it took so long to bring charges.
Twenty-three-year-old Maria Boyd was charged Wednesday with murder in the July 2010 death of her son, Andrew. Police believe she badly beat the boy in her Huntingdon apartment after returning from a night out with friends.
Investigators say Andrew Boyd had a serious head injury, a broken arm and died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
Defense attorney Tom Dickey says his client is innocent. He says at least two other people had access to the child during the time the injuries occurred.
But Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic says more evidence against Boyd is forthcoming.
