OSHP seizes nearly 2,000 illegal Rx pills


FINDLAY, Ohio — Two men are face felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 999 Oxycodone pills and 1,000 Xanax pills, valued at nearly $30,000, during a traffic stop early this morning in Hancock County.

Troopers stopped a rented 2011 Toyota Yaris, with Kentucky registration, for a marked lanes violation and a turn signal violation, southbound on Interstate 75 at 3:15 a.m. Upon contact with the vehicle, troopers detected the odor of marijuana. A probable-cause search revealed the illegal prescription medication under the driver’s seat.

The driver, Michael Vanmeter, 57, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and passenger, Nicholas Zapeda, 39, of Carroll, Ohio, were charged with possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.
