YOUNGSTOWN

Two dozen new street signs are being placed in the Wick Park neighborhood in recognition of the historic district.

Placing the signs began Tuesday and will be finished shortly.

The signs are going up on Broadway, Fifth, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Park avenues as well as Caroline and Elm streets around and near the park on the city’s North Side.

“It’s a way to beautify the neighborhood and brand it,” said Gary Davenport, president of the Wick Park Neighborhood Association. “It shows our pride in the neighborhood.”

The association partnered with the city, Defend Youngstown, the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative and Youngstown CityScape on the project.

The city used about $1,100 from its federal Community Development Block Grant money to buy the signs, said Bill D’Avignon, the city’s Community Development Agency director.
