Lou Gentile, a Democrat from Steubenville, was sworn in Tuesday as an Ohio senator representing the 30th District.

The district currently includes Columbiana County. But state redistricting will remove that county from the 30th effective in January 2013. At that point, it will join Mahoning County in the new 33rd District.

Gentile, a first-year Ohio House member, was selected Nov. 30 by the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus to fill the rest of Wilson’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2012. Gentile was officially sworn in Tuesday.
