Ohio judge rejects lower bond for teen's caregiver

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A judge has refused to reduce bond for a caregiver of a 14-year-old girl who authorities say died of nutritional and medical neglect and whose 28-pound body was covered in bedsores, infested with lice and caked in dirt.

A Montgomery County judge heard testimony Tuesday on Makayla Norman’s condition when she died March 1.

“She was a skeleton with skin draped over it,” Detective Rebecca Rose testified. “It was horrific.”

The judge kept 41-year-old Mollie Parsons’ bond at $250,000 and ordered her placed under electronic monitoring if she does post bond, The Dayton Daily News reported.

Parsons, a licensed practical nurse who surrendered her license in August, has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other charges. Three other people, including the girl’s mother, are charged in the case.
