Pennsylvania suspect asks cop: Can I have my weed back?
BEAVER, Pa.
A defense attorney was arguing that a bag of marijuana that fell on the ground during a western Pennsylvania traffic stop could have belonged to one of three other men in the car with his client that night.
Until the officer testified Monday that 19-year-old Devonte Davon Jeter asked him a question: “Can I have my weed back?”
Jeter was one of four men in a car stopped by Midland police May 13.
Assistant District Attorney Kevin Kindred argued to the judge, “I don’t know what else ‘Can I have my weed back?’ can mean, other than it’s his.”
The Beaver County Times reports a district judge agreed with the prosecutor and ordered Jeter to stand trial on marijuana- possession charges after that testimony.
Suspects pay for stuffed bear stolen from Pennsylvania bar
UNIONTOWN, Pa.
A district judge dismissed theft charges against seven men after they each paid more than $1,000 to repair a stuffed bear they were accused of damaging when it was stolen from a southwestern Pennsylvania bar.
Tuesday’s preliminary hearing was canceled when the men paid $8,722 in restitution to John El-Ayazra, the owner of Sam’s Restaurant and the Eagle’s Nest Bar in Uniontown where the 800-pound, 8-foot tall bear was stolen Sept. 18.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says the owner’s friend shot the bear 10 years ago while hunting in Russia and had it mounted and shipped to El-Ayazra as a gift.
The bear was a conversation piece and popular photo item for patrons. Its snout, jaw, claws and one arm were damaged when the men carried it down some stairs to a pickup truck.
Thief slips away with truckload of margarine
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa
Authorities are searching for a thief who slipped away with a truckload of margarine bound for an Iowa warehouse.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that authorities say a semitrailer packed with the spread, about $50,000 worth, disappeared during the weekend from a truck stop in Elks Run, near Waterloo. The margarine was bound for a Target warehouse in Cedar Falls.
The Black Hawk County sheriff’s office says the driver left the trailer at the truck stop to wait until the warehouse had space. Another truck was slated to pick up the trailer for the last leg of the journey.
Authorities say sometime Saturday night, a thief hooked up the trailer and drove off with the margarine. The theft was discovered Sunday morning.
