mahoning county Dog pound schedules adopt-a-thon

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County dog pound, 589 Industrial Road, will conduct an adopt-a-thon from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, with Dog Warden Matt Ditchey paying the $15 license fee for all dogs adopted to indoor homes that day.

Ditchey will pay both the license fee and the $35 adoption fee for the first seven lucky dogs weighing more than 40 pounds that are adopted that day.

An additional $80 spaying or neutering fee, which includes a rabies shot, will be charged.

The group Friends of Fido, however, will pay the first $10 of this fee for each dog adopted.

All dogs adopted Saturday will be spayed or neutered that day and can immediately join their new families.

Also featured at the pound this month is a “giving tree” that will accept donations of blankets, dog treats and chew bones to improve the dogs’ quality of life during their stay at the pound.

Donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
