Thousands line up for casino jobs in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (AP) — A lot of people are betting on jobs at Ohio’s first casino.

Nearly 5,000 people filed online applications Monday, the first day for applying for 750 non-gaming jobs at Horseshoe Casino Cleveland.

The positions include cashiers, bartenders, buffet supervisors and chefs. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent and submit to drug testing and a criminal background check.

Last week, the casino began training 600 prospective dealers selected from among nearly 12,000 applicants for those jobs.

The casino, which opens in March, plans a total workforce of nearly 1,600.
