A township man is under arrest, accused of breaking into the home of a woman he knew.

Marius Fanea, 33, of Glenwood Avenue, was charged Sunday with assault and aggravated burglary after police said he broke into the Trenholm Road home of a female former acquaintance about 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

The 44-year-old victim said she was in her living room when she heard a loud bang on the front door. She heard Fanea yelling at her to open the door, and a few seconds later he entered the residence through a side door.

She ran into the bathroom and locked the door, as Fanea began banging on the door yelling, “I want my gun. I know it’s here, and I’m not leaving without it,” according to a police report.

The victim told police when she thought Fanea had left she opened the door and was pulled into her son’s room onto the bed. She managed to get up and run, but Fanea grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her, the report said.

She was able to force her way outside where she told police she began yelling for help. Fanea fled the property on foot, according to the report.

Officers noticed red marks on the victim’s neck. They found keys and a cellphone belonging to Fanea inside the house, the report said.

Fanea was located at a house on the same street as the victim’s. He was taken into custody and taken to the Mahoning County jail.

He’ll appear for a pretrial hearing today at Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman.
