Public forum on Youngstown mail-processing center is Dec. 28 in Boardman

YOUNGSTOWN — The U.S. Postal Service will have a public meeting to discuss its proposal to move some mail-processing operations from the Youngstown processing and distribution plant to Pittsburgh.

The meeting will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave.

A postal service study began Sept. 15 in Youngstown to determine the feasibility of consolidating redundant operations and to see if the postal service could save money from a consolidation.

Initial results support consolidating mail-processing operations at the Youngstown facility into the Pittsburgh facility.

The postal service says no final decision on the facility has been made, but documents obtained by The Vindicator detail plans to shift some employees to other postal locations when the Youngstown plant closes.

A summary of the proposal and presentation materials will be made available on www.usps.com one week before the meeting date.
