Police probe robbery at Warren parking lot

Staff report

WARREN

Police have made no arrest in the noon Friday robbery and vehicular assault in the parking lot of Pat Catan’s store, 1923 Ridge Road SE.

Police released a report Monday, saying a 69-year-old Newton Falls woman and her 75-year-old husband were walking through the store parking lot when a person driving a blue minivan asked for directions.

The driver, a white male, reached out from the vehicle and took hold of the woman’s purse, which he eventually got.

The purse was still around the woman’s arm when the suspect began to drive away. The purse strap broke, but the woman was dragged a short distance.

The woman fell to the pavement, injuring her hands and right elbow, police said. Her husband was sideswiped by the vehicle, causing him to also fall on his hands and elbows.

An undetermined amount of cash and other personal items were inside the purse. The woman and man were treated at St. Joseph Health Center.
