Dog pound sponsors December events

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County Dog Pound and Adoption Center, 589 Industrial Road, is announcing two events taking place this month to help stray and unwanted dogs.

The first is a giving tree to accept donations for items to make the stay at the pound a little nicer. Blankets, dog treats, chew bones, etc. will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

The second event is a Christmas Adopt-A-Thon from noon to 4 p. m. Saturday. During this event Dog Warden Matt Ditchey will personally pay for the license fee for all dogs adopted to indoor homes that day. In addition, he will pay for the license fee and the adoption fee for the first seven dogs that weigh over 40 pounds adopted to indoor homes.

Fees for the adopt-a-thon are $50 (to be paid at the pound) for the adoption and license, and an $80 spay/neuter fee (to be paid at the veterinarian office), which includes a rabies shot. Friends of Fido will pay $10 of the spay/neuter fee for each adopted dog.

All dogs adopted during the event will be spayed/neutered Saturday and can join their new family the same day.
