The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance is accepting nominations for the Rev. Elizabeth Powell Heritage Award.

The candidate or organization submitted should fit any of the following criteria: champion of humans rights/dignity, work for the betterment of the Mahoning Valley, advocate for social justice, a selfless act of denial or promoter of community empowerment.

Past recipients are the H.H. Pincham family, Joel Imler and the Rev. Lonnie K. A. Simon.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile-outreach center will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP for the last time this year from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job-discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission.

Home Depot robbery

Police arrested one woman and were still searching Saturday night for a man in an afternoon robbery.

Police said a man was caught shoplifting about 1 p.m. from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd., and fought with a security guard before leaving the store and entering a getaway car driven by a woman. The car was involved with a hit-skip accident near Southern Boulevard and Meadowbrook Avenue, police said.

Police charged the driver, Brittany Bachani, 21, with complicity to robbery. She was arrested near Earle Avenue in Youngstown. Officers continue to look for the male suspect.
