Lordstown Eagle

Luke Aaron Pyles, a son of Timmy L. and Cheri L. Pyles of Lordstown, received his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor, at a court-of-honor ceremony last month at Lordstown Lutheran Church.

Scoutmaster is Ed Detre.

Luke joined Cub Scout Pack 220 of Lordstown in 2000. He earned his Tiger, Bobcat, Wolf, Bear and Webelos badges, and the Arrow of Light award. He also earned the God and Me and God and Family religion awards.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 20 in June 2005, where he served in several positions, including senior patrol leader. He has earned 22 merit badges. He attended two canoeing trips to the French River and the Canadian wilderness.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Luke designed and led the building of four baseball scoreboards for the Lordstown Park baseball fields.

He is a senior at Lordstown High school and is taking college courses through Kent State University Trumbull Campus and Youngstown State University.

He is a four-year letter winner on the varsity soccer team, four-year band member, and two-year letter winner of the varsity tennis team. He is a member of Key Club, where he volunteered with Relay for Life and Red Cross blood drive.

He is a member of Bailey Road Baptist Church and its teen youth group and volunteers as assistant coach for the Upwards youth basketball program.

LEADERSHIP

Judge elected president

Judge Peter J. Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court will serve as president of the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association for 2012 after his election last week during the annual winter conference.

Judge Kontos has served on the common pleas bench since 1997. Before that, he spent 17 years working in the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s office. He earned his undergraduate degree at Bowling Green State University and his law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

The common pleas judges association’s membership includes all general division judges of the state’s common pleas courts, and its mission is to improve the law, the legal system and the effective administration of justice.
