Mahoning Valley breaks century-old record for wettest year in history

YOUNGSTOWN

The trace of precipitation recorded at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport this weekend is sufficient to make 2011 the wettest year on record in the Mahoning Valley.

As of this morning, the National Westher Service had recorded 50.82 inches of precipitation for the Valley since Jan. 1, which is 0.01 of an inch more than the previous record of 50.81 inches set in 1911.

According to the NWS, rounding out the top five wettest years in the Valley are 1956 with 48.58 inches; 2006 with 48.47 inches and 1950 with 47.35 inches.
