Trumbull County Educational Service Center has announced that Lana Stechschulte, a teacher at Maplewood High School, has achieved the master-teacher designation by successfully completing the master-teacher application process.

The master-teacher program, which is a program created by the Ohio Department of Education’s Educator Standards Board, is a way to recognize and honor teachers who go above and beyond district expectations.

A master teacher demonstrates excellence inside and outside of the classroom through consistent leadership and focused collaboration to maximize student learning.

A master teacher strives for distinguished teaching and continued professional growth as specified by The Ohio Standards for the teaching profession.

This application process requires teachers to:

Complete a portfolio and a rigorous application process that includes writing a narrative to address five professional criteria specified by the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession. The five areas are: consistent leadership; focused collaboration; distinguished teaching; focus on students and environment; distinguished teaching: focus on content, instruction and assessment; and continued professional growth.

Exhibit evidence to support the narrative.

Achieve exemplary scores in four of five areas on the scoring guide, which is scored by a Master Teacher Scoring Committee.

Trumbull County Educational Service Center facilitated the master teacher application and scoring process for Trumbull County school districts.

Ohio Senate Bill 2 directed the Educator Standards Board to define a master teacher in a manner that can be used uniformly by all districts and to adopt multiple, equal-weighted criteria to use in determining whether a person is a master teacher.

The Trumbull County Educational Service Center provides educational leadership and instruction in the areas of curriculum development, special education and technology.

The center employs more than 200 teachers, therapists, psychologists, classroom assistants and other specialists who work directly with approximately 3,500 students in 20 school districts.

The center also conducts professional- growth seminars for approximately 2,000 teachers each year.
