Ohio officer won't face charges in fatal shooting

COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio police officer who fatally shot a 33-year-old man who was trying to escape in his car will not face charges.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien tells The Columbus Dispatch that a grand jury decided not to indict Officer April Redick, who shot Dustin Robert LeMaster on Sept. 16.

Redick approached a suspicious car in an alley and ordered LeMaster to turn off the ignition. He refused and attempted to flee the scene, dragging Redick through the alley.

Redick drew her gun and shot LeMaster, who crashed his car into a garage. LeMaster later died at a hospital.

A grand jury reviews all police shootings that end in the death of a civilian.
