Eastern Gateway Community College will offer a required safety course for those interested in preparing for jobs in the oil-and- gas industry.
The PEC Premier Basic Orientation, which provides the student with SafeLand and SafeGulf certification upon completion of the course, is scheduled for January at the college’s Pugliese Center, 110 John Scott Highway, Steubenville. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 19; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 20; or 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 21.
Eastern Gateway’s work-force-development department is the only authorized PEC/Premier Safety Management provider of this training in the state of Ohio.
SafeLand and SafeGulf are safety certifications that meet industry safety standards allowing the certified party access to a drilling site. PEC Basic was designed to take the place of multiple operator orientations and to give each student a general idea of life and safety issues in the oil and gas industry — upstream, downstream, onshore or offshore.
This program provides a basic understanding at an awareness level of certain general safety information that an employee should know before entering a company facility and while performing assigned work duties.
PEC/Premier Safety Management assists energy and production operators in various industries to manage, evaluate, and train their contractor work force through standardization and the collection of safety data for the benefit of the entire industry. PEC services vary from helping the oil and gas industry standardize an orientation and online safety questionnaire to providing training curriculum for oil and gas contractors.
The cost of the course is $200. For more information, visit www.egcc.edu/shale or call 800-68-COLLEGE, ext. 304.
