Interstate 80 reopens after being closed for most of a day due to an overturned truck near Meander Reservoir that spilled about 75 gallons of styrene monomer, a highly flammable chemical that produces irritating fumes.
1971: Nearly 3,000 General Motors Assembly Division afternoon shift employees are sent home early. Personnel Director Jerry Becker says employees were not properly performing work assignments, which caused a backlog of cars needing repairs.
