Mangapora, Cards pull past Champion

Sabrina Mangapora scored 14 of her 22 points in the second half as the Canfield High girls basketball team pulled away from Champion for a 57-40 victory on Thursday.
Rachel Tinkey scored 12 of her 16 points in the first quarter for the Cardinals (2-1), who led 27-23 at halftime.
For Champion (1-1), Mackenzie Kiser had seven of Champion’s 15 rebounds and led the Flashes with 13 points. Lindsay Swipas added 10.
Poland 62, LaBrae 40

Maura Bobby scored 20 points, Abby Brenoel had 12 and Kelsey Malenic added 10 for the Bulldogs.
Junior forward Ashlee Stubbs had 16 points and sophomore Somer McCoy had 7 of 17 rebounds for LaBrae (2-2).
Struthers 70, Liberty 32
LIBERTY
McKenna Shives scored 16 points, Ashley Hefferon had 13 and Brittany Zupko added 11 for the Wildcats, whose 18-4 first-quarter lead told the story.
Vakeyla Merriweather’s 16 points paced the Lady Leopards (1-3).
Lakeview 55, Beaver Local 38
CORTLAND
Ali Gagne scored 13 of her 27 points in the first quarter as Lakeview jumped out to a 20-7 lead over the first eight minutes en route to its first victory.
Gagne also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-2), while Jamie Sentner had nine points and Allie Pavlik and Abby Dunn each added six points and five assists.
For Beaver Local (2-2), Tenelle Hoppel had 12 points.
Maplewood 66, Mathews 42
VIENNA
Brooke Dawson and Allison Bell had 15 points apiece and Dawson had 14 of Maplewood’s 36 rebounds for the Rockets (4-0).
For Mathews (0-3), Junior forward Jessica Marsico had 10 points, while junior Jacki Rhine had 10 of her team’s 21 rebounds.
Youngstown Christian 51, Heartland Christian 11
YOUNGSTOWN
Shanell Harris had 19 points and Destinee Snyder added eight. Cashia Moyer chipped in with six.
A total of 11 Eagles scored at least one point.
