Christmas came early for the residents of Humility House in Austintown, as they celebrated everything Christmas in a Holiday Extravaganza on Nov. 12.

The event was a fundraiser for the facility’s outdoor prayer garden. Although most of the garden is complete, Humility House wants to add memory bricks to widen the garden’s sidewalks, install benches and create water features.

“We want it to be the perfect space for our residents and their families to reflect, relax and be at peace,” said Mary Jane Gingher, Humility House activities director.

The facility set a goal of $3,500 to finish their garden, and their Nov. 12 event helped raise funds for the cause. The event featured 26 baskets in an impressive raffle, as well as a collection of local crafters and vendors to sell their wares.

The facility offered warm food and a bake sale to feed residents and guests.

Local performers entertained crowds throughout the day and Santa Claus was present to start making a list for any guests with Christmas gifts already on their mind.

“We’re hoping that we can make our Holiday Extravaganza an annual event and make it bigger and bigger each year. It’s great to invite the community to see our facility and what we have to offer here,” added Gingher at the close of the event.
