Boardman bowlers win opening match
Boardman High’s boys bowling team defeated North Canton Hoover, 2,835-2,827, in the opening match of the season. The girls team beat the Lady Vikings, 2,204-2,144.
Jim Tancabel rolled 227 and 236 and Jonathan Tiberio had games of 252 and 268. The Lady Spartans were led by Lindsey Dugan’s 207 and Becca Babnic, who chipped in with a 186.
Danielle Bletso ends volleyball at St. Leo
Danielle Bletso, a 2008 graduate of Boardman High School, recently completed her volleyball career at St. Leo University in Florida.
The 6-2 middle blocker was a mainstay for the Lions, including her senior season when Bletso had a .352 average and 341 kills, ranking her in the top 3 in the Sunshine State Conference and 29th in the nation. On the defensive side, she had 102 blocks of which 36 were solo.
Bletso was accorded first-team All-South Region honors by both the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. and Daktronics polls.
She was also first-team all-conference.
For her career, Bletso finished fourth all-time in kills (1,052) and blocking (424). She was a five-time conference player of the week.
