Drugs found on body

Girard

Girard police on Wednesday said authorities found prescription painkillers on the body of a man who committed suicide Monday after attacking his wife.

Capt. John Norman, the detective in charge of the Girard portion of the investigation, said police found a bottle of oxycodone drugs prescribed to Keith Jornigan, 40.

Authorities are awaiting the toxicology results, which could take up to 10 weeks, to find out if Jornigan had the drug in his system at the time he attacked his wife, Danielle Jornigan, 35, with a bat, shot her with an arrow in Bristol Township and later killed himself.

Norman expects to complete his full report on the incident by the end of the week.

Official reappointed

MCDONALD

Village officials have reappointed a council member whose petition to run in the Nov. 4 general election had been deemed ineligible by the Trumbull County Board of Elections.

Fellow council members reappointed Brian D. Fisher, whose expiring term ends Dec. 31. He will serve a new four-year term, effective Jan. 1.

Fisher was one of five applicants to fill the seat, noted Mayor Glenn W. Holmes, adding that council had 30 days after Fisher’s term ended to find a replacement.

Fisher said his main goal is to keep the village’s finances in the black by continuing to exercise fiscal prudence.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, officials discussed a $548,000 resurfacing project for about 4,900 feet of Ohio Avenue, set to begin next summer. About $148,000 is from an Eastgate Regional Council of Governments’ grant, noted Thomas Domitrovich, village administrator.
