YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating three separate robberies, including one of a Market Street fast-food restaurant manager.

Police were called to the Wendy’s restaurant in the 4100 block of Market Street on the South Side at noon Monday for a report of Wendy’s employees chasing a black man described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, about 175 pounds, wearing gray sweatpants and a camouflage coat.

According to police, a store manager was leaving the building with a money bag containing about $1,500 to be deposited in the bank. He noticed the camouflaged man running toward him, and the manager was knocked to the ground.

The manager told police that the thief snatched the money bag and ran across Market Street toward Hillman Way in Boardman.

Employees said the man had been hanging around the restaurant for an extended period of time and left a hat and umbrella inside the restaurant. The hat and umbrella were turned over to police as evidence.

The manager declined medical attention but did have bruises from being knocked to the ground.

Police also are investigating the armed robbery of a 24-year-old Canfield man and 17-year-old Austintown boy Monday evening on the city’s South Side.

The man told police he and the teenager went to visit a friend in the 100 block of Auburndale Avenue about 5 p.m. when the friend pulled out a gun and demanded their possessions. The man handed over $100 and prescription drugs. The boy had nothing of value.

The thief left the home after the robbery, and police could not find him in the general area of the house.

A 48-year-old West Side man told police he was robbed Monday evening when a white man, described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 25 years old with a bandanna over his face, rang the doorbell to his North Schenley Avenue home then forced his way inside.

The homeowner said he began to fight with the man who kept saying, “Give me your drugs.” The intruder claimed to have a gun, but the homeowner said he was able to fight the man off. The thief ran off with only the homeowner’s keys.
