Coroner IDs Pa. man hit by train, probe ongoing
JEANNETTE, Pa. (AP) — A coroner has released the name of a western Pennsylvania man struck and killed by a freight train, but says toxicology tests and other investigation is needed to determine why it happened.
The Westmoreland County coroner says 34-year-old Brian Myers was killed Monday about 4:15 p.m. by a westbound Norfolk Southern train in Jeannette. That’s about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Jeannette police and railroad officials are also investigating the accident including why Myers was apparently crossing the tracks at that location when a pedestrian walkway was available about 1,000 feet away.
Myers died of severe head injuries.
