Police caught a suspect in an armed robbery Monday morning at Long John Silvers on Ellwood Road.

Shenango Township Police and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department caught a suspect, Kevin Benincase, 24, of Montgomery Avenue in New Castle not long after the robbery around 9 a.m., Shenango Township police said.

Police said Benincase was caught shortly after he ran out the back door at the restaurant. He had about $500 on him including three “bait bills” that the restaurant manager identified through serial numbers, police said.

He also had a loaded .40-caliber handgun, police said.

A restaurant employee told police she heard a knock at the back door. She advised the person to go to the front door. Benincase came through the front door and pulled a gun on her, she told police.

Benincase was arraigned Monday before District Magistrate Jennifer Nicholson. He was in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
