Ohio city official sees money in weddings

CINCINNATI (AP) — Here’s a proposal: Cincinnati’s city manager wants to renovate the city hall’s courtyard to make it a place to hold weddings and other special events.

Milton Dohoney says a $4.4 million, two-year project could convert the courtyard into an enclosed atrium. He says the city could then get more use from the 1893 building.

San Jose, Calif., is among other cities that already host wedding receptions and other events. Dohoney didn’t project how much revenue could be raised by such rentals in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that some city council members aren’t ready to say “yes” to the idea just yet. Councilman Charlie Winburn calls it “ridiculous.”

Council members could remove the item from the city budget before passing the spending plan later this month.
