Deer hunt set on Ohio Air Force base

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Arrows will fly through the air at southwest Ohio’s Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in a bid to control its deer population.

The Dayton Daily News reports deer have become a nuisance on a base golf course and munch on the landscaping at Wright-Pat. Also, base officials say they’re concerned that vehicles will have run-ins with deer and that disease could spread among the herd.

Officials say the planned archery hunt is the first in recent memory. It will be limited to hunters with a base ID — meaning people on active duty in the military, civilian employees and retirees.

Ten hunters per week will be allowed to participate over four one-week periods. The first will start Dec. 17, and the last will end Feb. 5.
