Officer in stun-gun eye-injury incident retires

MEADVILLE, Pa.
A northwestern Pennsylvania police sergeant who fired a stun gun that caused a man to lose his eye is retiring, though officials say the incident is not the primary reason for his decision.
Meadville police Sgt. Glen Peterson has not commented on the Aug. 23 incident in which he fired the weapon at 52-year-old Michael Mondo, who was charged with causing a disturbance downtown.
Chief David Stefanucci tells the Meadville Tribune that a hearing on the incident showed Peterson followed the department’s use of force policy in deciding whether to use the weapon, though the question remains whether the officer fired it properly.
The chief says any discipline Peterson may have faced is moot now that he’s retiring effective Jan. 2. Peterson actually stopped working Nov. 10, and is using sick time until his official retirement date.
