Federal judge will speak at event
YOUNGSTOWN
The 12th annual “Jabali” African Cultural Celebration event will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngtown State University.
The event is co-sponsored by YSU’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Initiatives as part of its Community Series, YSU’s Africana Studies Program and the Buckeye Review.
The event includes a dinner and entertainment provided by the Harambee Youth Group and the African Students Union.
Judge Benita Y. Pearson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio will speak. She is the first black female federal judge in Ohio.
Dinner is $25 per person, $10 for students and $175 for a table of eight. To make a reservation or for more information, contact the Africana Studies Program at 330-941-3097.
Santa in Hubbard
HUBBARD
Santa will be visiting Santa’s Cottage in Tylee Park in downtown Hubbard from Dec. 14 to 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day.
Bring your camera and take your own holiday pictures of your visit with Santa in the decorated park. Refreshments and caroling also will take place. Letters to Santa will be accepted.
Donations to help defray expenses can be made to Tylee Park Restoration Committee, and mail to Tylee Park Committee, 69 Clingan St., Hubbard, OH 44425.
Toy collection
WARREN
The Warren Family Mission is collecting toys at its 361 Elm Road NE location up to age 16 until Dec. 16. Last year, more than 300 children received toys. The giveaway will be Dec. 20.
The mission also is accepting food until Dec. 23 for its Community Christmas Dinner to be from 2 to 5 p.m. that day.
Items needed include hams, pineapple, pork Stove Top stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad, pork gravy, cranberries, rolls, bread and butter and items for punch.
