DETROIT

Jeremy Montgomery and Tim Kamczyc scored 12 points apiece to help Cleveland State. Anton Grady added 11 points for the Vikings (8-1, 2-0 Horizon), who won their third in a row. Six victories have come on the road. Doug Anderson scored 17 points to pace the Titans (3-6, 0-2), who have dropped three straight games. Ray McCallum added 14 points and Jason Calliste 11. Cleveland State was outshot, hitting 44.4 percent (24 of 54) to Detroit’s 46.5 percent (20 of 43).

Valparaiso 77, Butler 71, OT

INDIANAPOLIS

Richie Edwards scored 18 points and Ryan Broekhoff had 13 points and 12 rebounds Saturday to lift Valparaiso. Matt Kenney’s three-point play with 32 seconds left in overtime gave the Crusaders (6-2) a 76-71 lead in the Horizon League opener for both teams. Ronald Nored led the Bulldogs (4-4) with 17 points. Kameron Woods had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Roosevelt Jones added 10 points for Butler. Erik Buggs had 13 points for Valparaiso. Will Bogan scored 11 and Kevin Van Wajk had 10 points for the winners.

Milwaukee 73, Illinois-Chicago 71, OT

MILWAUKEE

Kyle Kelm scored 18 points and Milwaukee is off to its best start since 1992-93. James Haarsma added 14 points and Kaylon Williams 13 points and five assists for the Panthers (7-1, 2-0 Horizon).

Kent State 57, Alabama-Birmingham 48

KENT

Randal Holt scored 13 points and Chris Evans added 12 to lead Kent State for the Golden Flashes (5-1), who have won three straight.

Ohio 61, Morgan State 53

ATHENS

Walter Offutt scored 17 points to lead Ohio (5-1), which improved to 4-0 at home. Morgan State (0-7) dropped to 0-4 on the road. Offutt got help from fellow forward Ivo Baltic, who scored 14 points.

Toledo 73, Chicago State 61

CHICAGO

Dominique Buckley hit 5 3-pointers among his career-high 21 points to lead Toledo.

Ball State 71, Tennessee-Martin 48

MARTIN, TENN.

Jarrod Jones scored 22 points and Ball State pulled away in the second half for its fourth consecutive victory.

Temple 86, Central Michigan 74

PHILADELPHIA

Khalif Wyatt scored 23 points and dished out seven assists to lead Temple.

Nebraska-Omaha 77, Northern Illinois 72

DEKALB, ILL.

Mitch Albers had 26 points, including five free throws in the final 46 seconds, and Nebraska-Omaha got its first road win.

No. 11 Xavier 66, Purdue 63

CINCINNATI

Tu Holloway scored 21 points, including three consecutive 3-pointers in the last two minutes, and Xavier roared back from a 19-point second-half deficit. Holloway personally capped the Musketeers’ comeback with six straight points that gave Xavier a 61-60 lead with 1:06 left.

No. 14 Michigan 76, Iowa State 66

ANN ARBOR, MICH.

Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 points and Jordan Morgan added 16 to help Michigan. It was the first time the schools had met since Johnny Orr left Iowa State in 1994. Orr remains the winningest coach in Michigan history.

Darius Johnson-Odom scored 17 points for Marquette (7-0), which snapped the Badgers’ 23-game home winning streak.

Illinois 82, No. 19 Gonzaga 75

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.

Meyers Leonard scored 21 points and helped Illinois hold Gonzaga’s Robert Sacre to two second-half points. D.J. Richardson added 19 points for undefeated Illinois (8-0).

IOWA CITY, IOWA

Melsahn Basabe had 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Iowa. Roy Devyn Marble added 11 points off the bench for Iowa (5-3), which had lost three of four.

Minnesota 55, USC 40

MINNEAPOLIS

Rodney Williams had 12 points — including two dunks — plus nine rebounds and four steals to give Minnesota some energy.
