St. Elizabeth Health Center will wrap up its yearlong 100th anniversary celebration with an Interfaith Prayer Service at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Columba Cathedral at West Wood and Elm streets. A reception will follow at St. Columba Hall.
Shooting death ruled homicide
WARREN
The death of Kristopher T. Kyser, 22, of Paige Avenue Northeast, was ruled a homicide by gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Kyser died Wednesday in ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital after being taken there from Caf 22, 2006 Youngstown Road SE, just after midnight Wednesday.
Kyser was already gone from the tavern when police arrived, and he was unconscious at the hospital when officers attempted to interview him. The gun used to shoot him was not recovered, Warren police said.
Food drive

The Cortland Area Cares food drive will take place Sunday through next Saturday at the Bazetta Township Administration Building, Cortland Police Department, Cortland Fire Department, Mark Thomas Ford, Greenwood Auto of Cortland, Cortland BP and Hovis Tire.
Items needed include canned tuna or chicken packed in water, canned stews and pasta, baby food, canned fruits in light syrup, natural applesauce, 100 percent juice cans or boxes, canned vegetables, tomatoes, tomato sauce, cereals and cereal bars, pasta, spaghetti, macaroni, noodles, packages of dry beans and pet food.
Students in Free Enterprise at Kent State University Trumbull Campus is sponsoring the drive.
Man pleads guilty
WASHINGTON, D.C.
A 75-year-old New Castle, Pa., man could spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to a federal charge of traveling interstate to engage in sexual conduct with a minor.
Having entered his plea in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia earlier this week, John Bigley faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 when he is sentenced March 30.
After communicating by email to an undercover police officer his interest in meeting an underage girl for sex, Bigley traveled from New Castle to a pre-arranged meeting place in Washington, D.C., where he was arrested in July, the U.S. attorney said.
Siren purchase
YOUNGSTOWN
Mahoning County commissioners have entered into a $61,333 contract with B&C Communications Inc. of Akron for purchase and installation of three new emergency alert sirens.
The new sirens will be at the county engineer’s office on Bears Den Road, Austintown Fitch High School, and across from the South Range Schools complex on state Route 46 in Beaver Township.
Clark Jones, county emergency management director, said he hopes the sirens, being paid for by federal Homeland Security funds, can be installed in the spring. The new installations will increase the number of such sirens in the county to 51, Jones told the commissioners.
Donations sought

Operation Blessing is accepting donations of new or gently used toys. Drop off donations at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., by Dec. 14. Parents will be able to select a toy from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 15 at the church.
