Neighbprs | Submitted.Cardinal Mooney students collected enough donations to put together 20 Thanksgiving dinners for families in the Valley.
Students at Cardinal Mooney High School spent the month of November collecting food and staples to provide Thanksgiving meals for 20 Valley families.
Under the direction of the school’s Christian Service Club and Theology Department, students collected food donations within the school community to provide holiday dinners for the families, whose names were provided to the school by Catholic Charities.
Dinners included a turkey, fresh produce for salads, a 10-pound bag of potatoes, two loaves of bread, half gallon of milk and a pumpkin pie. Students assembled the food baskets Nov. 21 in the school cafeteria. The entire school participated in a Thanksgiving Prayer Service Nov. 22.
The food baskets and the students delivering the baskets were blessed at the service before delivery to the families. Students delivered the baskets to Catholic Charities on Belmont Avenue.
Additional donations of nonperishable items are being made to various community agencies, including the St. Columba Food Pantry.
