Cards goalie breaks state saves record
Canfield hockey goalie Roger Geiser broke the OHSAA career saves record in a 1-0 shutout win over Mentor last Saturday, stopping all 47 shots he faced.
Sean Meditz scored in the second period to give Canfield its first victory of the season (1-3).
Geiser later faced 49 shots in the second game of the day, stopping 48 in a 1-0 loss to tournament winner Avon.
Geiser’s career saves total to date is 2,104, surpassing the previous mark set by Liam Robinson of Cleveland Heights (2006-2010) of 2,028.
Canfield seeks girls’ soccer coach

Canfield hockey team start season with losses
The Canfield varsity hockey team (0-2) opened the 2011-12 season with two losses in the annual Canfield Hockey Thanksgiving tournament last weekend.
The Cards fell to Avon 3-0, as Canfield goaltender Roger Geiser stopped 39 out of 42 shots.
In the second game, Canfield made it close, down 3-2 until Mentor sealed the victory with an empty net goal to finish off Canfield 4-2.
Geiser stopped 34 shots in the contest. Ryan Ohara and Braden Falkingham scored for Canfield. Falkingham’s goal came on a penalty shot in the second period. Nick Crescimanno assisted on Ohara’s goal.
Pirates winter caravan in Youngstown Dec. 14
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Winter Caravan will visit Youngstown on Dec. 14 as part of scheduled visits to 16 different communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
During the three days of Caravan visits, current and former Pirates players, coaches and representatives will meet with fans and the media.
Those expected are manager Clint Hurdle, players Andrew McCutchen, Joel Hanrahan, Kevin Correia, Jose Tabata, Jeff Karstens, James McDonald, Daniel McCutchen, Alex Presley, Brad Lincoln and Michael McKenry and coaches Jeff Banister, Nick Leyva, Luis Silverio and Ray Searage.
