Junior varsity girls win season opener
The Boardman girls junior varsity basketball team began the season with a big 42-13 victory over Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
Sophomore Kennedy Kesner led the scoring with eight points. Freshmen Renee Dubiel and Daricia Robinson and Colleen Baker each added six each. Freshman Chaise Perez chipped in with five.
YSU baseball camp
The Youngstown State baseball staff will host a camp for boys and girls aged 6-13 on Dec. 29-30 at the new Watson and Tressel Training Site on YSU’s campus.
All aspects and fundamentals of baseball will be taught, including hitting, fielding, base-running and the mental part of the game.

Pirates winter caravan in Youngstown Dec. 14
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Winter Caravan will visit Youngstown on Dec. 14 as part of scheduled visits to 16 different communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
During the three days of Caravan visits, current and former Pirates players, coaches and representatives will meet with fans and the media.
Those expected are manager Clint Hurdle, players Andrew McCutchen, Joel Hanrahan, Kevin Correia, Jose Tabata, Jeff Karstens, James McDonald, Daniel McCutchen, Alex Presley, Brad Lincoln and Michael McKenry and coaches Jeff Banister, Nick Leyva, Luis Silverio and Ray Searage.
