Several Boardman churches united at Bethel Lutheran Church for prayer, song and thanksgiving in the first Boardman Community Thanksgiving Service in over a decade.

Leading the service were pastors from Westminster Presbyterian Church, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Ohev Tzedek Congregation, Boardman United Methodist Church and Bethel Lutheran Church.

Rabbi Josh Jacobs-Velde presented a description of the Jewish origins of the Puritan Thanksgiving celebration. The Protestant Puritan leader Cotton Mather referred to the Jews in his prayer for their conversion as God’s “Beloved People, “The New Israel.”

Following his message, there was a time of sharing Thanksgiving memories. Those who attended and those who participated in planning the service agreed to make this an annual event.
