LOUIE TODAY: Ending addiction, V-Grip, Jimbo film, World AIDS Day


French cardiologist Oliver Ameisen will update Louie, Vindy.com's news radio partner, on his successful use of baclofen, an inexpensive generic drug, in the treatment of addiction.

His riveting memoir, "The End of My Addiction," details the physician's hellish battle with alcohol,and his scientific use of himself as a guinea pig to find an effective medication for his deadly disease. His discovery five years ago that the muscle relaxant baclofen produces rapid, effortless freedom from addiction when used in high doses provided his path to an addiction-free life. It is now being used in a pilot program by Community Corrections Association of Youngstown, which claims a 90 percent success rate.

Also, Nick Voulvalis, agent for the U.S. Department of Alcohol,Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, will be in the studio to talk about the success of the V-GRIP initiave this year in the Mahoning Valley , which tallied 250 arrests and seizure of 147 firearms.

Then filmmaker Eric Murphy will give an update on his fundraising efforts for his movie, "Traficant: The Congressman of Crimetown, which exceeded his $25,000 goal Wednesday night.

And Dr. John Venglarcik of the Mahoning County Health Department and an expert in the treatment of HIV AIDS, will give an overview of HIV AIDS in our community for today's World AIDS Day.
