In about two years, construction is likely to begin on replacement of the Olive Street Bridge which carries vehicles between McDonald and Niles.
Randy Smith, Trumbull County engineer, received approval Wednesday from the county commissioners to apply to the Ohio Public Works Commission for a $1.3 million grant to provide the local share for the $6.6 million project.
The Federal Highway Administration is providing the rest of the funding. The bridge closed in 2009.
Park statue returned

A statue that was discovered missing from Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park a week ago has been returned, and a man suspected of stealing it was being questioned Wednesday by police.
The Kneeling Girl Fountain, which was stolen from the Beeghly Family Garden, was recovered by a scrap dealer who recognized it, bought it and told police who sold it to him, The Vindicator’s media partner, 21 WFMJ-TV reported.
The bronze statue had been in the garden since 2001.
Police identify man hit, killed by car
WARREN
Police have identified the man who was killed after being struck by a car on North River Road in Warren Township on Tuesday night as David Stowe, 50, of Woodside Drive.
Stowe was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center after the 6 p.m. accident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Stowe stepped in front of a car as he attempted to walk south across North River from Woodside. The intersection is just east of Mahoning Avenue Northwest.
A Ford Taurus operated by Maria Irving, 30, of Warren, struck Stowe as it traveled eastbound. The investigation into the accident continues.
UAW donates funds to Fairhaven site

Members of United Auto Workers Local 1112 at GM Lordstown have given the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities a check for $4,000 to help the agency complete work on a playground at its Fairhaven School on Lincoln Way.
TCDD has playground facilities for children up to age 5, but it did not have any for clients age 6 to 22, and that is the segment of the population to be served by the new playground.
The first half of the $50,000 project was completed earlier. The UAW donation will help fund the second half, expected to be constructed this summer.
Car break-ins probed

Police are investigating a string of car break-ins and one car theft from the northern part of the township known collectively as The Glen. People in two homes on Jennette Drive reported their cars ransacked and items missing between Saturday night and Sunday morning, police said.
A man who lives on Newport Drive said his brown 2004 Chevrolet Classic was stolen from his driveway, according to reports.
The man told police his car was unlocked and he left the keys in the vehicle, police said.
