Retiring city administrators honored

YOUNGSTOWN — City hall was party central today as employees honored two retiring administrators — Police Chief Jimmy Hughes and Law Director Iris Torres Guglucello — on the last day of their jobs.

Their replacements — police Capt. Rod Foley and Deputy Law Director Anthony Farris — will be sworn in at 9 a.m.Thursday in city council chambers.

Hughes, who spent 35 years on the police force including the last 5 1/2 years as chief, said it’s going to be tough no longer being police chief.

“I spent a long time in the police department; it’s imbedded in me,” he said. “It’s such a part of me. How do you get rid of that? It’s hard.”

Hughes said he may look for another job in law enforcement after a little break.

Guglucello, who worked for the city for 13 1/2 years including 6 1/2 years as law director, said she’ll miss the job and her coworkers, but is looking forward to her retirement.
