Man shot to death in New Castle

A man was shot to death on the east side of the city.

Police say Gordon Rees Jr., 31, a city resident, was shot in the chest at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday at Williams and Acorn streets. He was taken to Jameson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was walking on Williams Street when a black Chevrolet Cavalier with tinted windows drove past, police said.

Rees yelled for the car to slow down, they said. The driver stopped, got out of the car and approached Rees, pulling out a handgun.

Words were exchanged and the driver shot Rees once, then left, police said.
