5 bids for eatery noted on ‘M*A*S*H’

TOLEDO

Five bidders are putting in offers to buy an Ohio restaurant whose hot dogs were made famous by cross-dressing Cpl. Max Klinger on TV’s “M*A*S*H.”

The ownership of Tony Packo’s is up for grabs because of a family feud over the ownership of the Toledo restaurant.

The Blade newspaper reports that a court-appointed receiver expects to recommend to a judge who should get control over Packo’s.

The restaurant was mentioned in six of the 250 episodes of “M*A*S*H” during the show’s run in the 1970s and ‘80s.

There are five outlets around Toledo, and the original Packo’s remains a destination and is decorated with “M*A*S*H” memorabilia.

Relatives of its founders are locked in a court fight topped with accusations of financial misdeeds.

Kronos, Patti Smith accept music prize

STOCKHOLM

American string quartet Kronos Quartet and rocker Patti Smith have received the prestigious 2011 Polar Music Prize from Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The musicians accepted their awards at a glitzy ceremony in Stockholm on Tuesday.

Each award is worth 1 million kronor ($159,000).

The Polar Music Prize is typically shared each year by a pop artist and a classical musician. It was founded by the manager of Sweden’s legendary pop group ABBA, Stig Anderson, in 1989.
