Dayton Daily News photo chief resigns in protest
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The photo director for the Dayton Daily News has resigned rather than go along with planned layoffs of photography staffers.
Larry Price says he didn’t think the plan was fair to staffers or in the best interests of the newspaper and readers of the Cox Media Group publication. The two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer resigned Monday, three days after being informed that two to four people would be cut from nine staffers.
Layoffs and other staff reductions have become common across the news industry, as news organizations try to cope with more competition online and declining advertising revenues. A message seeking comment was left for the Daily News’ editor.
The 57-year-old Price says he plans to pursue photography projects.
