$180,000 raised at Sunday’s Panerathon
YOUNGSTOWN
Panera Bread’s second annual Panerathon, a 10K/2-mile run/walk Sunday at the Covelli Centre drew more than 4,000 registered participants and raised $180,000 for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Covelli Enterprises donated 100 percent of the proceeds to the center, which plans to open its doors in November at St. Elizabeth Health Center in downtown. The breast care center has been a dream of Dr. Rashid Abdu for the past 17 years, since he lost his wife Joanie to breast cancer. The event began at 10 a.m. and was followed by a post-race party which included food, drinks, bounce-arounds, face-painting, a firetruck and other activities for the family.
