15th annual Toth event on Sept. 4
HUBBARD
The public is invited to visit the 15th annual open garden at Rodney and Kay Toth’s home, 5637 W. Liberty St. (state Route 304, 2.5 miles east of Belmont Avenue), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 4.
Several major gardens feature dahlias, unusual varieties of tomatoes, peppers, hostas, coleus, annuals and perennials and a 40-foot-long gourd arbor.
New this year will be the Grandchildren’s Garden, which consists of eight triangular sections — one for each of the couple’s grandchildren — with plants such as “chocolate-cherry tomatoes,” “pumpkin on a stick,” “fuzzy wuzzy cucumbers,” “megaton cabbage,” “teddy bear sunflowers,” “strawberry popcorn” and “voo-doo lily.”
Also new will be the Florida Corner, with scorpion tail, rouge plant, porter weed, variegated salvia and lantana.
The Potpourri Pole will be back with Dutchman’s pipe and the new “blue sky vine.”
Monica Toth Baker will sing at 1:30 p.m., Joe Weinel will lead karaoke at 3;30 p.m., John Schinker from the Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will discuss mums, and Alice Lang will show decorative gourd art.
Ample parking is available. There is no admission fee.
