Poland sports briefs

Send fall sports news

The fall sports season has already started and Neighbors wants to be part of your successes this year.

Coaches and parents should email game recaps, stats and photos to neighbors@vindy.com for publication. In order for us to print the latest results, please send information within 48 hours of the game. We’re looking to feature all fall sports - football, soccer, cross country, tennis, golf and volleyball.

We’ll kick off our Neighbors Blitz football pages in the coming weeks, as results from junior varsity, freshman, middle school and youth football games start coming in.

Neighbors looks forward to showcasing your young athletes.

Poland track open, but there are rules

The Poland High School track has been resurfaced and is open to the public. However, those intending to use the facility should take note of several rules.

Short spikes, such as the 1/8-inch pyramid spike, may be used on the surface. Spikes should not penetrate the surface. Penetration would lead to excessive wear and actually slow a runner down.

Also, athletic equipment, such as hurdles, should not be left on surface for extended periods, especially during hot weather.

Poland grad playing softball at Westminster

Former Poland athlete Brittany Gamble recently traveled with the Westminster College volleyball team when it traveled to Barbados Aug. 6-12 to train and compete against international teams, including the country’s national team.

In addition to the volleyball, the team went on a Catamaran cruise and went snorkeling.

Westminster’s regular season begins Friday, as the team seeks to improve upon last season’s 18-14 (12-4 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) record. Gamble is a junior defensive specialist for the Titans.
