With all the responsibilities parents juggle every day, it is a welcome but rare occasion that they get a night off.

To make life easier for local moms and dads, the Davis YMCA offered a Parent’s Night Out on July 15 so couples could enjoy four and half hours however they pleased.

At the YMCA, 15 3 to 5-year-olds and 17 6 to 12-year-olds were welcomed to the facility to learn, play, and swim for an entire evening, exploring the theme “Light Up the Sky.”

“With Parent’s Night Out, we’d like to think that neither group is having more fun than the other. The parents get to spend some wonderful quality time together, while the kids really experience all the activities that the YMCA has to offer,” shared Jennifer Pasavanis, who watched the group of 32 kids from around the Valley on July 15.

Throughout their evening together, the group explored the facility’s outdoor playground and indoor Adventure Center, completed crafts and watched a movie.

The kids made glow-in-the-dark Play-doh and slimy goop that they were welcome to take home with them.

The facility hosted a Parent’s Night Out once a month this summer, but by next year, they’re hoping to offer the event three times a month.

“Most of the parents who participate in the Night Out say that it’s the perfect amount of time to enjoy a nice dinner and a movie,” Pasavanis said.

Pasavanis also noted one more plus of participating in Parent’s Night Out.

“We keep the kids busy for a reason – getting them really tired makes for a very easy bedtime. The parents really love that.”
