The Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team will teach a basic pistol-training and conceal-carry course Sept. 10 and 11 at Hidden Valley Sportsmen’s Club, West Middlesex, Pa. The deadline for registration is Wednesday.

The course will follow NRA Basic Pistol Training guidelines. A certificate will be given to individuals who complete the course.

Training will cover pistol and ammunition knowledge, safe gun handling, shooting fundamentals, marksmanship and live fire drills.

Archery range open

Canfield

A target archery range is now open at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm in Canfield. Though the range will be open daily from sunrise to sunset, it may be closed during special events at the MetroParks. The archery range is unattended, and posted safety rules must be followed. Archers must bring their own target faces; no broad-head arrows are permitted.

For more information about the archery range, call the Mill Creek MetroParks Administrative Office at 330-702-3000. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Boardman festival

Armstrong will sponsor a new outdoors festival, Antlers and Anglers, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Boardman Park. Hunting, fishing and nature enthusiasts are invited to take part in the family friendly celebration of the great outdoors.

All proceeds will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

Archery shoot

MERCER, Pa.

Mercer County Conservation District,, 753 Greenville Road, is having a 3-D Archery Shoot from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 10.

There will be local vendors, food and door prizes. The course will consist of between 20-25 targets for all ages to shoot noncompetitively.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years old. All proceeds and profits will benefit the local conservation district in providing environmental education to people of all ages focusing on agriculture and ecology education.
