Summer was officially over Wednesday in Austintown as students all over the district started their 2011-2012 school year.

For Woodside second-grader Lillian Fairall, her first day in Austintown came after transferring from Market Street Elementary School in Boardman.

“I’m excited to make new friends. I’m not afraid to step up and say, ‘Hi, my name is Lilly.’ I’m going to try and find friends who like the Steelers and playing games like Pokemon,” Fairall shared.

At Frank Ohl Intermediate, new fourth-graders Lena Biggs and Allison Edwards were already looking forward to their legacy at their new home.

“We’re going to be the last fifth-grade class in the old Frank Ohl, until the new school is finished,” Edwards said.

“It’s cool to be part of the change,” Biggs added.

Austintown Middle school seventh-graders Zachary Krohn and Kelsie Gartland were happy not to be the youngest class at AMS anymore.

“There is more privilege,” Krohn pointed out.

“But also more work,” Gartland added, with a laugh.
