The Canfield Board of Education hired a new school teacher and approved a new student Tuesday at a special meeting.
Brian Petruska replaced Matthew Montgomery as a high-school science teacher after the board approved his hiring. The Poland graduate will receive a salary of $47,617 a year and contribute 8 percent to his health benefits. Montgomery resigned from the position last month to become the principal at Waterloo Middle School.
The board voted to accept the retirement of C.H. Campbell’s special-service aide, Polly Marsh. Marsh worked in the district for 17 years. Lisa Ross will move from part time to full time to fill the opening.
Members of the board agreed to allow Macarena Daniela Yanez Briceno of Chile to join the ranks of students at Canfield High School.
The exchange student is sponsored by the Rotary Youth Exchange.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the board room at 100 Wadsworth St.
