Arizona street-sign prank warns of ‘rogue panda’

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.

Authorities in Flagstaff, Ariz., are assuring residents there are no rogue pandas roaming the city after some pranksters got creative with an electronic street sign.

The Arizona Department of Transportation- controlled sign was set up to warn drivers not to make left turns at a busy intersection. But motorists heading to work Monday morning got an entirely different message: “Rogue panda on rampage.”

A passer-by reported the hacked sign to police about 3 a.m. Monday.

Transportation Department spokeswoman Mackenzie Nuno says the sign was restored to its original message by 11 a.m.

She says the agency has no suspects, but she noted the hackers would have needed specialized equipment to change the sign.

Flagstaff police Lt. Ken Koch tells the Arizona Daily Sun that residents can rest assured there are no problems with rogue pandas in the city.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports the man was struck in the face, arms and back. His truck was also splattered with paint.

Police say the attackers, believed to be men between 18 and 20 years old, then fled in a car.

The Daily News report says the men didn’t demand money or try to take anything from the postal worker.

Fallen canisters cause closure of Nashville ramp

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Canisters of frozen bull semen that fell from a Greyhound bus caused a minor scare when emergency officials found them emitting vapor by the side of the road near downtown Nashville.

The canisters fell off just before 6 a.m. Tuesday as the bus traveled around the curve of a ramp to Interstate 65.

Metro Nashville police and fire officials were called to the scene because of reports of a foul odor coming from the leaking canisters.

WKRN-TV reported the four canisters of semen and dry ice were en route from Ohio to a Texas breeding facility.

Officials shut down the ramp until they determined what was in the containers, but the scene was cleared around 9 a.m.
